Acción Católica General is organising an online round table on 2 April at 8:00 post meridiam on the subject of dialogue.

Many of us grew up in an era in which there were spaces for learning to engage in dialogue. In the family, the parish and the school, we lived together on a daily basis. Although nobody formally taught us to engage in dialogue, we learnt it through experience in these environments.

However, in recent decades, social changes have meant that many people lead parallel lives and that spaces for coexistence are increasingly scarce. Without these spaces for communication and sharing, dialogue becomes more difficult or even impossible. In the digital world, algorithms and marketing decide who receives certain messages on social networks, filtering information according to private interests. This encourages misinformation and hinders dialogue, making it more difficult to understand reality in its entirety.

In addition to all this, our society is going through a process of polarisation that makes real, meaningful and deep dialogue as well as day-to-day coexistence difficult. This makes us increasingly unable to understand the reality around us. Moreover, phenomena such as the ‘cancel culture’ reinforce confrontation rather than understanding.

Faced with this scenario, at ACG we believe it is necessary to promote real and effective spaces for dialogue and participation, where the spirit of communion promotes the shared search for truth and the common good. Only in this way will it be possible to overcome fragmentation and move towards a society and a Church more united in diversity. The round table, which will be held on 2 April at 8:00 p.m., aims to highlight dialogue as a tool for improving social coexistence. With this meeting, we join the process of listening and dialogue promoted by the Church in recent years through the Synod of Synodality, recognising it as an example to follow.

We invite you to participate and join forces in this task that commits us all.
